WTF?

GaGa.... I love you and all, but a bedazzled lobster head piece? Seriously? I'm all for the duct tape nippies, but the diamond encrusted crustacean on your head has got to go. And what is that yellow claw you're holding? Clearly, there is no reason to continue to ask questions as to why GaGa makes the fashion decisions she does. I do have to give her credit though, I would sure love to pick her brain for a couple minutes.

She wore this craziness immediately following her final concert date of her "Monster Ball Tour" in London, England last night. Funny part is, she actually tried hiding her face from the following paparazzi as if someone, other than herself, would casually walk around in this attire.

You never cease to amaze me, Lady.

50 DAYS!!!

And the official countdown begins...

There are only 50 days until the Fordham University 'Fashion For Philanthropy' Fashion Show!! So far, I have 6 pieces done and ready to be fitted on models. That leaves me with a lot more work to do (almost 15 pieces left) and of course to add to my stress MIDTERMS are coming up. Right now FFP is working on transforming the Rose Hill gymnasium into a fairy tale wonderland with handmade decorations! I'm so impressed with the team effort of the club this year. There are so many people supporting this production and I'm very excited to show my support for the this club and it's cause!

I'm heading home this weekend to continue working on my pieces so I'll absolutely update after the weekend to show my progress :) Until then.... happy 'hopeful' snowday!

Derek Lam Fall/Winter 2010!

Derek Goes West...

I had the opportunity to attend the Derek Lam Fall/ Winter 2010 Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week on Tuesday, February 16, and it was absolutely stunning. The show took place at Capitale` in SoHo, which is an old bank turned event space on Bowery. Entering into the space, I was in awe of the grand ballroom with huge columns and coffered ceilings. The atmosphere was beautiful, and this was only where the show was taking place.

The show begins and glittery white confetti falls from the middle of the runway, giving the effect of snow fall.

After a colorful printed Spring/Summer 2010 collection, Derek chose to use a more muted palette of colors but still keep his effortlessly chic style with beautiful coats and use of, my favorite, leather! Being inspired by cowgirls, there was fringe, chin-straps, and chunky platform booties.

Being an intern for Derek Lam Co., I was able to actually have a seat at the show and got to be an observer rather than a model dresser. After the show we went back to the office and merchandised the collection, so I actually had my hands on the clothing that I just watched go down the runway in New York Fashion Week.

Here's a video that I took of the Finale walk and some of my favorite pieces from the collection!!!

P.S. In the video, front row, third person from the left. ANNA WINTOUR.

On A Happier Note...

New York Fashion Week began today!! This is the first year the event will be based out of New York's Lincoln Center, instead of it's famous Bryant Park location. I'm SUPER pumped because I get to go to the Derek Lam Show on Tuesday, February 16th, and be a viewer, rather than a dresser! I've seen the collection and it is RAD. I'll post some of my favorite Fall/Winter 2010 collections as the shows proceed during the week!

Also, Taylor Lautner (a.k.a. Jacob Black)(a.k.a. one of those guys from twilight) turned 18 today! Happy birthday Taylor.

Sorry all you Edward fans, TEAM JACOB!
Now only 7 more months until Nick Jonas turns the big 1-8 and I can officially pounce. Ha, who am I kidding? I would jump on that ANY day.

**For those of you who have not listened to Nick's solo album, Nick Jonas & The Administration, I HIGHLY recommend you do so. Erase all of your thoughts and judgments about the Jonas Brothers and look at Nick as an artist. It's a much more mature, groovy sound, and I'm sure you'll find at least one song that you will enjoy.

Maybe this will encourage you to take a listen. Hmmm well, if your not a chick.... and straight..... ugh, JUST LISTEN TO THE ALBUM!
YUM.

A Very Sad Day...

As most of you may know, 40-year old fashion designer, Lee McQueen (founder of the company Alexander McQueen), was found dead in his London home shortly after 10am this morning. The cause of death was suicide leading many to believe he took his life because of his mother's death last week.

I was in absolute devastated shock when I heard this news. McQueen was an inspiration to fashion designers all over the world, including myself, because of his unique talent and extraordinary creativity. If you have never seen a McQueen collection, you are missing out. His runway shows are a complete theatrical event with dramatic headpieces, towering heels, and extravagantly tailored clothing. Many would call it just plain bizarre, but it is that 'edge' that maintains a designer's stern position in the fashion industry and McQueen was one who I believed would be one of the last standing.

One of his lines, McQ, was set to show at New York Fashion week today but was cancelled because of the tragedy.

In loving memory of the designer, I have put together some photos of my favorite pieces from his last few collections.

My upcoming 'Villain' collection was very much inspired by you, Mr. McQueen, and the fashion world will miss you dearly. Rest In Peace.

IT'S HERE!!!

AND IT'S FIRE!  Rihanna's Official Music Video for "Rude Boy"!!! It has such a 'pop art' vibe. Loves.

Happy Snow Day!!

Today was AWESOME! Fordham University cancelled classed for today, February 10th, yesterday in anticipation of the snow. Two of my classes got cancelled! Woo hoooo! Fordham's campus was breathtaking with the snow everywhere! I took some awesome pictures on my phone of the artwork made on Eddie's :D Enjoy!

"HEY, that lady wants to take a picture!"
Group of students who posed and let me take another picture. I have no idea who any of you are, but you're all very cool in my book. How gorgeous is this campus!
Oh, hey Emily, my first Campus Walker! They made a snow couch with footstool and are enjoying a nice, cold beer. Worry Free. This day ROCKS!

This snow man was hugeee. Everything used was taken from the caf. Pear buttons, orange eyes, cereal mouth, and cone nose and ears.

Fordham poncho cape and chopsticks for the FU.

After I took this picture, someone destroyed this amazing creature. I was so upset, I was about to slap a biiii......

Hehehe. "That's ignoraant." Props to the artist on this one.

It's hard to see the face, but it had amazingly sculpted eyes, nose and mouth. And some abs too.

Overall, a VERY enjoyable day! Gotta love snow days...

Campus Walker

I found two well dressed ladies tonight on the Fordham Rose Hill Campus, who attended the  Fashion for Philanthropy meeting.
Emily O : Junior, CBA Student.

Her shoes were adorable! I admired them during the whole meeting. I also loved the oversized scarf. She looked so comfortably chic for having to come to the meeting straight from work.

Kara M : Sophomore, Fordham College Rose Hill Student.

Simply put, I would wear this outfit. I love her green layered dress paired with the blazer. And of course, matching with my favorite clothing color, black, is always a plus!

Well done girls!

I hope to catch more campus walkers around the Fordham area!!

Daily Rihanna Post

Pictures surfaced today from Rihanna's set of her new music video for "Rude Boy." AWESOME SONG off of her album "Rated R." The video is shot by Melina Matsoukas, who also directed her video "Hard." The video is scheduled to debut on February 11, 2010 and I'm counting down the minutes.

In the "Rude Boy" video, Rihanna is pictured on a zebra with balloon hair? Whaa? I don't really expect anything less from her though. She also is pictured with long hair-- I have to say, the long hair just doesn't represent where she is at career and life-wise right now. I'm loving the still of her with the yellow stripped pants and the watch, made out of watches!

RiRi was interviewed by Daily Mail, where she stated "A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough, 'Rude Boy' is more playing along the lines from my roots." FYI: Rihanna is from the country of Barbados.

I'm so anxious to see this video because it is one of my favorite songs off of her new album!! I also can't wait to see what she wears. Pretty much I have a full fledge girl crush on this chick.

one word: FEARLESS.

Love, Rooster's Gonna Win Millions...

While doing some homework last night, my iTunes shuffled to the song "Snow (Hey Oh)" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Yes, this is very unrelated to fashion but it is one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me.

I attended a RHCP concert in October of 2006 and while my friends and I were tailgating a camera crew came up to interview a guy that was parked next to us. My friends, Alyx, Gemma, and myself decided to creep up behind him... Look at about 1:05 of the video below to see the outcome.

Red Hot Chili Pepper's Snow (Hey Oh) Music Video

After shooting the footage, the crew had us sign some paper work so they would be able to use the footage in, what they told us would be a DVD of the concert. A couple of months later, a friend of mine sent me an email saying "You might want to check this out..." with the link attached.

Never felt so cool in my life.

Yes, They Get Paid To Sit There...

Stories invaded the fashion blogs today, covering the extent fashion designers will go (or pay) to have a celebrity sit front row at their show. Here's a list of the highest paid celebrities attending. Beware: the results may astound you.

             Rihanna: $100,00 or more
             Beyonce: $80,000- $100,000
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen: $80,000 EACH
             Julianne Moore: $60,000
             Maggie Gyllenhall: $60,000
             Chloe Sevigny: $60,000

** Fun fact: In 2006, Lindsay Lohan was getting paid $60,000 to attend some of the fashion shows. Currently in 2010, she is uninvited.

Rihanna is pictured above wearing a white Derek Lam blazer and matching pants at his store opening on Crosby St. NYC, back in May 2009. Being a Derek Lam intern, I am PRAYING she will come to the show in a couple weeks so I can see her in the flesh. I DIE.

And So It Begins...

This weekend I went home to Jersey and started my collection for the 'Fashion For Philanthropy' Fashion show!! My mother and I were slaving over the sewing machine all day Saturday to crank out some of the first pieces. Take a looksie...
I'm literally drowning in tulle. The collection is inspired by Villains, so I've decided to use tulle and leather. You may think they mix like oil and vinegar, but from a fashion point of view, they're beginning to make one sick collection.
The pink skirt I constructed by folding 4 yards of pink tulle in half, then gathered it evenly  to fit into a 28 inch waist band that I made out of a faux leather/vinyl. The green skirt was more difficult to construct. I used 26, YES 26, yards of green citrus tulle. I cut 4 pieces of 6 yards each. 2 were cut full length to make the longest layer, 1 was folded in half to make the third and fourth layer and the last was folded into thirds to make the fifth, sixth, and seventh layer. I sewed them all together to make one long layered pieces and then gathered it to fit into a 25 inch waist band, also made out of the faux leather/vinyl.

OOF, and this was all in the first day.

And so.... the journey the continues.

52nd Grammy's Red Carpet Round Up!

Some of my favorite looks from last night's Grammy Red Carpet...
My favorite woman in this business, Rihanna, in a white chiffon Elie Saab gown. She can do no wrong in my eyes. Love her.
Miley Cyrus wore a long sleeve, green mini by Herve` Leger. Girlfriend don't look 17.
Katy Perry in a long sleeve, nude Zac Posen gown. From this picture you can't see, but the back was completely open. She looked amazing in it! The flowers were also hardware metal.
Most may disagree with me here, but Lady GaGa looked great last night. As crazy as she is, she is NOT fashion, she is ART. No one else attending the Grammy's last night could have pulled this off and that is what I love about this woman.

Anddddddddd of course, my favorite boys. Joe looks scrumdiddly in those glasses. Pure class, gentleman. Fordham guys, take note.

FYI to the reader: If you choose to continue to read this blog, get used to the teeny boppers.
