Make Them Look Twice!

This clutch is GENIUS. I found it on a blog today and had to stop and take a second look at this adorable, yet so clever little accessory. Maison Martin Margiela has just come out with this clutch made out of smashed pieces of reflectors, yes reflectors, those things that your mom made you put on your bike when you were little, so that people would see you in the dark. Who thinks of that! Only in the fashion industry would such an idea be praised!

The reflector pieces are attached in a mosaic pattern to a rather simple leather clutch. It's hard to tell if the pieces were actually smashed up or cut to fit perfectly onto the clutch, but honestly, I don't care, this thing screams adorable! This will add sparkle to any outfit, one that wants to get noticed of course ;)

12 LOOKS DOWN... 3 TO GO

Sorry, I know it's been awhile, but I had SERIOUS spring fever. The weather has been so nice!

Anyway, spring break is over and I completed 5 more looks! Just in one day, my mom and I made a dress, a pair of pants, and a vest. This officially means that all I have left to make is a dress, one more tulle skirt, and a cape (that will be worn by a 'special guest.')

Yesterday, a camera crew from my sisters production studio stopped by to film me and my mom constructed some pieces for a documentary of my lead up to the fashion show to post on this blog after the show! The crew is also coming to film the show, which I am really excited about. I will be able to show it along with my portfolio.

Here are some pictures of some new stuff that I have been working on!

This is a dress made out of the green crepe fabric that my mom found in a Hackensack fabric store. It matches the green tulle skirt perfectly. Here I was just making the back straps and pinning them onto the form for measurements. It doesn't quite fit the form because it's smaller to fit my model.

This is the first dress that I have made using the teal speckled fabric. I think the mixture of the leather and teal print looks phenomenal. Again, I'm still working on the construction on the straps, but the base and all is finished! I always leave the finishing touches for last, just in case I need to tailor them to fit my models.

This is just one side of a pair of pants that are now finished. They are made out of the same green crepe as the dress above. They are high-waisted and baggy in the thigh/knee area and then get skinner towards the ankle. I'm pairing it with a black corset that I have hanging around my closet. Don't you just love, love, love this color?

I'm running out of room on this rack!!! Here are all 12 of my looks. That pink and black striped piece is one of the pieces that I finished over break and is a party flare skirt with a black vest. The collar of the vest is made out of the pink and black striped fabric and stands seriously tall. It is quite the colorful collection, no?

I can't believe that I only have 3 looks to go! If all goes as planned I should be finished by Easter. After that is all of the final fittings and accessorizing. With officially 25 days until the show, I can't bare the excitement.

Post Fashion Week= MARKET

So after all of the fun of Fashion Week dies down MARKET begins. What is Market? For the Sales department of a fashion corporation, Market is the week after all of the fashion shows are over and the collections have been shown to the world where a schedule is made up of appointment, after appointment, with buyers of stores to show the collection in a more up close and personal environment. For fashion interns, like myself and my roommate Kristin, Market means being stuck in a closet with the dimension of 5' by 6'.

Here are the pictures to prove it.

That is Kristin and I stuck in our little closet. We did this for 4 days! 4 DAYS PEOPLE. During the appointments, the sales directors give us looks of clothing from the showroom that we have to dress the model with in a certain order. On a good day, there are 3 appointments at a time, each wanting to see different looks. So including the model, that makes 3 people stuck in this closet with clothes being thrown all over the place.

If you want to work in the fashion industry you have to start somewhere, and for me and Kristin, that somewhere is this closet.

2010 Oscar's: Best Dressed!

The 2010 Oscar's took place last night in Hollywood at the Kodak Theater and ABC almost didn't allow people to watch it... FAIL. The Oscar Red Carpet is the event I look forward to during every award season obviously because of the amazing designer gowns! Here are some of my choices for best dressed of the night!

Maggie Gyllenhaal opted for a vibrantly printed Dries Van Noten gown paired with Fred Leighton jewelery. Personally, I am all about taking risks and when better to do so then at the Oscars! Maggie was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role but lost to MoniQue in 'Precious.'

Ohhh Meryl, how I love you so, she can do no wrong. The 'Julie & Julia' star wore a white, low cut, Chris March gown with a Swarovski clutch.
"And the Oscar goes to... SANDY BULLS." Sandra Bullock, who won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, wore a Marchesa gown with a touch of red lips. I did love this dress, but it bothered me that the crystals were only on one shoulder, but SHE WON, so it doesn't really matter what I think.
SJP stole my heart in this Chanel gown. The daring back straps were so intriuging, but leave to the 'Sex and The City' star to lead the night as best dressed.
Vera Farmiga, star of 'Up In The Air', opted for a hot pink Marchesa gown. I love the volume and color of this dress!

And last, but certaintly not least, Jennifer Lopez looking jaw droppingly beautiful in this gorgeous Armani Prive`.

Ah, what I would do to dress one of these ladies for an event like the Oscars. One day...

Feeling Accomplished.

This is the first day in a while that I feel like I'm actually making a lot of progress with the 'Villains' collection. I officially have 8 pieces done and the dress that I finished today actually took my breath away. FFP held model practice earlier where I fitted three outfits on girls and surprisingly, they all fit!! That makes my job much easier.

My mom also found the perfect lime green crepe fabric that matches the lime green tulle! I had been looking for a fabric like it for weeks and she went into one store and found it within seconds. I would seriously be nothing without her. I'm adding two more printed fabrics to the collection as well. One, a thick black and pink striped stretch cotton, and the other is a teal and black speckled cotton. The collection is getting even more colorful that I imagined and I can't wait to get to work on it and have it grow over Spring Break!!!

I've actually updated this dress since I took this picture, but I've added purple tulle inside these two layers of leather on the shoulders. It fits my model (aka my roomie Kristin) like a glove! :)

I'm so excited to continue to work on this collection. Watching it grow on my rack is making me more and more anxious to show people the collection, but sorry, I have to keep the best of it under wraps. I do want some of it to be a surprise!

HOBOKEN, NO JOKIN'!

Ahhhh, what a fabulous weekend.

I was finally old enough to legally attend Hoboken St. Patrick's Day festivities and boy was it one hell of a day. At 10AM, we started the day off at the bar Lana where we met up with some of my sisters friends from college. Then made our way over to meet up with some of my friends who I graduated high school with. We party hopped for a couple of hours, where I marked my territory with green chalk on every brick wall I saw.

After the parties, I headed back to meet up with my sister. I found her galavanting around the street outside of Lana, where she decided to stop and buy everything she could afford from a street vendor who was selling all St. Patty's gear.

"I'll take that trumpet, the boobies, andddddd that dog."

We took a nice stroll where she decided to stick the dog in my face every five minutes...

We proceeded back into Lana and finished the day with a dance off with my sisters friends where the best picture of the day was taken....

Fun Fact: That tulle bow I made out of the extra green tulle from my 'Villains' Collection and I sewed that green sequined bow onto the Minnie Mouse ears for my sister!

Overall, a fabulous day with amazing people, lots of drinks and great weather.
